Shirley Leighton, a resident for over 30 years, has taken over the Restaurant at the Phoenix Club (formerly The British Legion).
Her career to date has covered many aspects including teaching, running a Training Centre, working with adults and in Care Homes and as an NVQ Assessor.
Shirley has always been interested in catering having trained people in Food Hygiene so when she heard there was an opportunity to take on the catering at the Pheonix Club was given the contract.
She is very excited and has lots of ideas and ambitions for the restaurant including lunches through the week with a variety of food, and Sunday lunches with a choice of meats and all the trimmings. A Take Away service is also available.
“I am also eager to introduce afternoon Cream Teas during the week as this is one of the things people in Aycliffe have requested. We will also be doing a breakfast service to eat in or take away.” said Shirley
Although only open a few days there has been a lot of interest in full Christmas Dinners which Shirley is happy to provide. Bookings are now being taken for just £28.50 per person.
The restaurant is open for traditional Sunday Lunch offering a choice of three meats – all freshly made costing £5.20 for a standard size meal and £6.95 for large. A large selection of desserts will be available. The premises are available for Christenings, Birthdays and Funeral receptions, etc.
