Following approval from the Department of Education, New College Durham is proud to announce it can now use the title University Centre for its higher education provision.

New College Durham offers a varied range of university level qualifications including degrees, HNCs/HNDs, higher apprenticeships and professional qualifications. Students studying at the college get the same high-quality qualification they would at a traditional university but the experience along the way is very different.

Many of New College’s programmes are designed in partnership with local and national businesses. This practical focus gives students the opportunity to develop the skills and qualities employers want.

The college’s flexible study options allow students to get their degree in bite size chucks. After completing a two-year foundation degree, students can go straight into employment or complete a further year to achieve a full honours degree. Those who move into employment can return to the college at a later date to complete the top up programme.

 Deputy Principal Alison Maynard said:

“We are delighted to be able to use the title University Centre as we feel it truly reflects the quality and status of our higher education programmes. We have a long-standing history of delivering first class higher education with consistently high success rates. Each year, our graduates continue to progress within their chosen careers or choose to go on to postgraduate studies.”

Megan Nichols, Vice Principal – HE Development, said:

“Being able to use the title of University Centre is a positive step forward for the College. We are constantly working to offer our students the best possible education. We recently introduce a rewards package for our university level students which includes a free laptop and £100 to spend on study materials. Hopefully, this will help reduce the financial cost of studying and allow more people to progress to university level education.”
