Dear Sir,
I’m just wondering who is responsible for the chaos caused at the St Cuthbert’s Way/Bewick Crescent junction under the guise of road works?
For over a week now we have been subjected to a three way traffic management scheme while the workmen are resurfacing the pavement! The main problem being that people wanting to exit the car park from the Bewick Surgery cannot see the traffic light in Bewick Crescent, so have to take a chance when they turn left onto St Cuthbert’s Way, if the right of way is for the traffic heading for the town centre.
Some cars have to swing right out before turning left to go to the surgery or further round to Bewick Crescent itself causing near misses with anyone coming out of the car park.
Frustratingly, they left the traffic lights working at the weekend instead of moving the cones on to the edge of the pavement and allowing traffic to move normally at least whilst they are not actually working.
Regards
Gillian Stevens,
Marshall Road.
Ed: We have received many complaints about this roadworks. No one can understand why the traffic lights are there when no workmen are present and as the correspondent points out it would have been easy to remove the cones and lights.
There was no notification about this work and on a very busy road through the town more consideration for motorists by the Highway Authjority would have been expected.
