Everyone knows the Newton Aycliffe Youth & Community Centre, many still know it as ‘The Youthy’. The Management at the Centre now want you to know it as THE place to hold your events, run your groups and activities and rent rooms for training and business.

Last year the Management Committee took over the lease of the building from the County Council and after a year of hard work, redecoration and big changes the Centre is busier than ever. They are now working with a wide range of agencies and organisations to run new projects and services with many community groups continuing to run their activities.

Centre Manager Beki Metcalfe said ” I welcome the opportunity to show people from community groups, organisations and businesses what we have to offer. We have rooms of every size from small meeting rooms, training rooms to our large sports hall. Bookings have recently taken off, so people need to get in quickly, especially as we offer good value for money and the opportunity for long term lets.”

Chairman Vince Crosby said “Taking over the building has been hard work, but worth the effort. We are now in the driving seat and we know what we want to do with this place and how we want to work for the benefit of the community we are here to serve and support.”

The Management Committee have set a new way forward for the Centre – ‘Engaging, serving, supporting and empowering the people, families, groups and communities of Newton Aycliffe’. To do this they have set new goals to work toward:

• Engaging, supporting and empowering children and young people

• Engaging, supporting and empowering families

• Engaging, supporting and empowering those who are vulnerable and socially isolated

• Engaging, supporting and empowering community groups and organisations

They are keen to work with any organisations that can help us achieve these goals.
