Newton Aycliffe 1
Guisborough Town 0
Newton Aycliffe FC returned to winning ways on Saturday with a victory over Guisborough Town, maintaining their sixth place in Ebac Northern League Division One.
A 23rd minute goal from Marc Costello, who overtakes captain Aaron Brown in the Club’s all time goalscoring chart, was enough to give Aycliffe the three points.
Costello’s finish came at the end of some neat football as he was teed up from a sublime ball into the area from Liam Jarvie.
With over half an hour left, Aycliffe were reduced to 10 men when Andrei Ardelean received a second yellow card. He was adjudged to have dived although most in the ground thought he had been felled by the visiting keeper as he came out to block.
Some real resolute defending followed as Aycliffe dug in & saw the game out. Aaron Brown, particularly, making a fantastic block to save an almost certain equaliser.
