As a result of our attendance at the Great Aycliffe Show, 1407 (Newton Aycliffe) Squadron Air Cadets are pleased to welcome our new recruits.
They are already getting stuck in to all our activities and will soon be enjoying their first flight in a glider. Two such new starters, Cdts Keith and Leighton, joined the rest of our staff, cadets and their families at the Battle of Britain memorial parade on Sunday at Durham Cathedral. Aycliffe was, as ever, smartly represented by our cadets, with Cdt Olley carrying the squadron banner and Sgt Lowe playing in the band.
On Sunday 1st September our squadron competed in the inter-squadron swimming competition at Stanley. There were some excellent swims from all our competitors. F Sgt Graham won bronze in the 100m butterfly and Cdt Olley was 3rd in the individual medley. Our senior men team came second in both their relay events which, when combined with their strong individual results, led to them coming 2nd in their category. Overall our squadron finished 5th, an excellent result for our relatively small team.
