Newton Aycliffe FC found themselves in the Fifth Round Draw of the FA Vase this week even though they haven’t yet completed their Third Round tie.
Aycliffe have been trying to play Atherton Collieries since 12th December. However, the atrocious weather conditions we have experienced has prevented the game going ahead.
With the Moore Lane pitch still unplayable Aycliffe now face the prospect of playing a home match on a neutral ground this week. Aycliffe are by no means alone with their pitch troubles. Fellow Northern League teams South Shields & Morpeth also find themselves stranded in the Third Round. It’s not just the North East that has suffered with two ties in the southern section also outstanding.
If Aycliffe were to overcome Atherton they will play Northern League champions Marske United.
The winner gets a trip to Surrey side Camberley Town in the last 16 of the competition.
