MAGICAL Middlesbrough has secured a major Christmas coup with “Walking with The Snowman” trail coming to the North-east for the very first time.

In a tribute to Raymond Briggs’ magical classic The Snowman™, 12 giant snowman sculptures will be placed in a trail around Middlesbrough town centre from Saturday, November 2 until Saturday, January 4.

The trail will play a big part in the wider Magical Middlesbrough Christmas celebrations for the 2019 festive season.

Presented by Wild in Art, and in association with Penguin Ventures, part of Penguin Random House UK, the 1.65m sculptures will be decorated by professional artists around a ‘12 Days of Christmas’ theme.

The public will be able to pick up a trail map from Middlesbrough Town Hall, Central Library, Cleveland Centre, Baker Street Kitchen and Psyche and follow the magical trail taking their very own ‘Snowfies’ (Snowman selfies) en route using the hashtag #TheSnowmanWalkBoro.

Cllr Ashley Waters, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, said: “We are thrilled to have been selected by Wild in Art and Penguin Ventures to host a ‘Walking with The Snowman’ trail in Middlesbrough this year.

“The twelve sculptures, which will include some designs from talented local artists, will be a vibrant addition to Middlesbrough’s festivities and we look forward to seeing all your Snow-fies!”

Ben Reed, Head of Creative Development at Wild in Art said: “We’re really excited to continue our ongoing partnership with Penguin Ventures on Walking with The Snowman in our new location of Middlesbrough for 2019. We can’t wait to see how the artists develop the ’12 days of Christmas’ theme and bring Raymond Brigg’s magical Snowmen to life.”

Trail brochures will be available from the following locations from Saturday, November 2:

  • Town Hall
  • Central Library
  • Cleveland Centre
  • Baker Street Kitchen
