Students from Woodham’s ‘More Able Academy’ recently paid a visit to Middlesbrough FC’s training ground at Hurworth. The purpose of the visit was to see how the clubs sports science department operates. Many had the opportunity to work with Peter Hood, Head of Sport Science, to see how this developing discipline within professional sport helps stars such as Stuart Downing and Jonathan Woodgate achieve their best performances.
Students were given a specific training task whilst on their visit, which revolved around creating a Speed Agility Quickness (SAQ) type exercise designed to rehabilitate an injured player. It was an excellent experience for all concerned and will become a regular visit within Woodham Academy’s More Able and Talented programme.
