Dear Sir,
So we are to lose our market, and in quick time too! It’s a sad state of affairs when our Labour Town Council cannot get an agreement with our Labour County Council to pass over unused land for a market – surely not what the Labour Party would want at election time.
If the County released the land on a short term lease, it would have given more time to explore other options or change minds.
And what of the landlords? they put up the service charges to their tenants then opt to close down the market which will reduce the footfall in the area resulting in less income for the shopkeepers.
In retail terms that’s economic suicide and people will inevitably shop elsewhere. And what of the much trumpeted revitalised town centre? Did the landlords intend to build a giant skateboard park, because without the footfall that’s what it will become.
