Dear Sir,

A successful performance of Karl Jenkins ‘Armed Man’ and Gabriel Faure’s ‘Requiem’ was given by the Marie-Clare Singers at their inaugral concert in St. Clare’s Church on Sunday 13th January. A small but very appreciative audience praised the choir’s performance of both works. The plaintive quality of Florence Cowies voice so well-suited the opening ‘Kyrie’ of the ‘Armed Man’, the soprano solo ‘Pie Jesu’ in the ‘Requiem’ was convincingly performed by Debbie Wilson, full voiced and wide ranging in dynamic and colour.

Trevor Fenwick’s rich vocal timbre gave an intensity to the ‘Libera me’ of the same work. Soloists and choir were ably supported by the organ playing of Tim Walker. Thanks are also due to members of the Ordinariate Choir from Gainford who joined us for this performance.

A retiring collection raised the sum of £156 which will be divided between the Food Bank at St. Clares and the Alan Shearer Care Centre in Newcastle.

The choir is set to continue, the next rehearsal will be on Thursday 7th February 7.00-9.00pm at St. Clare’s with an exciting programme of songs from the shows – ‘Phantom of the Opera’, ‘Les Miserable’, ‘South Pacific’, ‘Oklahoma’ etc. etc. New members welcome either contact 01325 316963 or turn up at the rehearsal.
