Media Studies students at King James I Academy have travelled to Malta to gather footage for a series of online travel documentaries; they are now in the process of editing their footage back in the UK.

Malta is an excellent destination for young film makers. It has a rich history of media production with Game of Thrones, Gladiator, Troy, World War Z, Captain Phillips and the 1980 musical production of Popeye all filmed there to name but a few. Students visited the Popeye film set at Anchor Bay, which is now a tourist attraction; the Silent City of Mdina, which appears frequently in Game of Thrones; and the capital city of Valletta, which offered multiple locations connected to WWII history.

This international trip gave students the opportunity to gain experience in script writing, TV presenting and filming, alongside the complex planning issues that are faced by producers when creating a product. Once finished, all travel documentaries will be uploaded to the Academy website and YouTube for viewing by the general public.
