Readers are requested to make a poppy for the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day on November 11th.

Each year the townspeople fill our town centre for the annual Parade, followed by a Service in St. Clare’s Church.

We are asking knitters to make poppies and attach them to the railings in the town centre as a special tribute for this historical occasion.

They can be placed a week before and taken off a week after Remembrance Sunday.

Two knitting groups in the town have agreed to help create this display, but others have the opportunity to place individual poppies in respect, or in memory of loved ones, who have died in conflict.

Wool is being donated by Boyes Store and can be obtained by contacting either of the knitting groups: You can collect wool from St. Mary’s Hall on Wednesdays between 1pm and 3pm, when that group meets.

There is also a group at Crafters Companion on a Wednesday 2pm to 4pm (Knit and Natter Group). Everyone is welcome to attend and join in with poppy making. Completed poppies will also be on sale at Crafters Companion, proceeds to Poppy Appeal.

Anyone wishing to join them is welcome. Patterns can also be downloaded from the internet.
