A classic fairytale will be brought to life with a magical mix of song, dance, juggling and acrobatics during a performance at a County Durham park.
Swiss theatre company Nicole et Martin present their version of Brothers Grimm story The Musicians of Bremen at Hardwick Park next month.
Performed in a specially-built white canvas tent, the enchanting show combines traditional story-telling with a stunning visual performance.
It tells the tale of a donkey, dog, cat and rooster who are old and tired and no longer fulfil their master’s expectations. They set off on the road to Bremen where they hope to become musicians and live happily together without an owner but on the path through the forest they discover a robbers’ hideout.
Will they manage to chase off the robbers? Will they ever make it to Bremen? This funny story has the answers – and an important meaning too.
Returning to Durham after playing to sell-out audiences in 2008, Nicole et Martin are renowned for their captivating story-telling.
In the 13 years since they founded their own theatre troupe they have performed 1,767 times at 336 venues in eight different countries. The shows are translated and performed in seven different languages.
Sara Fortune, Hardwick Park manager, said: “We are thrilled to be welcoming Nicole et Martin to Hardwick Park. Their shows are equally popular with children and adults and I’m sure the park will provide the perfect picturesque setting for their marquee and accompanying circus entourage.”
