Kielder is billed as Britain’s most beautiful marathon, and when you arrive there it’s hard to argue with that. Set within the manmade forest is Kielder Water and it’s around this huge reservoir that the 26.2 mile course runs. Over the previous weekend hundreds of competitors took part in various events including the 10k, half marathon, run bike run duathlon, and the marathon itself.
Volunteers from our local charity, Madathlon attended. Saturday saw Madathlon’s Edd Gardiner and his team, Emma and Tricia, along with Helen Richardson and her team, Katie and Terry take part in the run bike run. An event covering the whole route with the first 11km run by the first team member, with the next 25km on the bike tackling tough terrain and plenty of hills! The third team member ran the final 6km to the finish line. Both teams put in a huge effort and did amazingly well.
Sunday was the turn of the marathon runners, Dave Carr and myself (Rob Shields). We have both previously completed this marathon so had a good idea what to expect although I’m sure there were more hills than I recall! It was a challenging 26 miles but we dug deep and crossed the finish line together.
Madathlon would like to thank everyone one for their continued support. We are currently working to provide defibrillators in the local area so all money raised is going towards potentially life-saving equipment.
