Woodham Community Centre hosted MAD Community Gospel Choir on Wednesday 7th April where an enthusiastic twenty strong choir led by Evelyn Lodge entertained a packed house.
A touching rendition by Evelyn of  Bette Midler’s “The Rose” had the hairs standing up on the back of your neck.
The choir has now been singing together for almost a year and have just launched their website.
There were several testimonies of the fun, encouragement and increased self esteem benefitting those who had joined the choir. Evelyn said that was what being part of the choir is all about.  Several solos showed the increased confidence of many of the performers. One soloist said, he had to walk around the community centre for 20 minutes before he plucked up the courage to come in and said  he received such a warm welcome when he did. A year later he was ready to take the next step by singing a solo.
There were only three men in the choir so if you would like to join be assured you would be accepted with the same friendly welcome. The final song was ‘Happy’ and it was easy to see that each member of the choir was very happy to be there.
The free Concert gave some in the choir who had never sung in public before the opportunity to perform to a selected audience prior to MAD Production’s annual Charity Concert in October  at the Xcel Centre. If tonight’s concert was anything to go by I am sure the choir will raise the roof in October.
If you are interested in joining come along to Woodham Community Centre any Wednesday evening and join in the ‘Happy’ singing. Evelyn says she hasn’t turned anyone away yet. Cherryl who gave her testimony can bear witness to that as she said sometimes she opens her mouth and croaks like a fish.
