The Acorns is a well established child care provider based in Darlington and offering a range of services for looked after children, care leavers and homeless young people. We are now looking for local people to join us as foster carers in our new fostering service and work with us to make a real difference to children’s lives.
Professional carers look after children and young people in their own homes and support them to achieve their potential and move their lives forward.  Foster placements are needed for all age groups – from babies leaving hospital to older teenagers – and from all sorts of circumstances.
There is a particular need for carers who could look after brothers and sisters so they can stay together, for people willing to give teenagers a chance – especially some who may have got themselves into trouble, and for people who would like to care for children with disabilities- either full time or on a ‘respite break’ basis.
Many different people can apply to become foster carers.  Married, single or living with a partner; retired, parents, grandparents or people without children.  You do not need a big house – although you do need a spare room and you don’t have to have worked with children before –although some experience definitely helps.
As well as great training and support for carers, we are committed to providing rates of pay and allowances that fully reflect the costs of caring for children and giving them all the best chances in life.   We also provide holiday pay and other benefits to make sure our carers know how much we value them.
We are aiming to recruit a group of carers who can look after children or young people from the Darlington, Durham, Teesside and North Yorkshire areas and who share our passion for meeting their needs in the best way for each individual.
