Spectrum North East Roller Skating Club performed family favourite ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ on Sunday 15th January 2017 at Shildon Sunnydale Leisure Centre.  The cast of 16 roller skaters (aged from 5yrs – adult) comprised, Tracy Stevens, Karen Austin, Jo Loring, Nicola Stevens, Sharday Smith,  Joseph Kearney (15), Niamh Dawson (11), Benjamin Smithies (11), Hannah Godwin (10), Lucy Richardson (10), Harrison Austin (9), Indie May Clark (9), Jazzmyn Loring (7), Fearne Abbott (7) Heidi Turner (7) and Joel Turner (5), They have been busy rehearsing since October fundraising to help the club achieve their dream of attending National Competitions this year, and have managed to raise £205.65. The show opened with Narrator (Tracy Stevens – coach and founder of the club) finding a book and starting to read the story of a young dreamer, named Joseph (Hannah Godwin (10) from Coundon).

Hannah started roller skating less than 2 years ago when she came along to lessons at Spectrum Leisure, Willington as a complete beginner.  The club started less than 3 years ago, but already has established regular lessons at two venues and is affiliated to the national governing body of roller skating, competing at three competitions, where Hannah, this year, won a bronze medal. The show is a mixture of artistic skating moves and theatrical acting with lots of enthusiasm and fun.  Tracy Stevens, skating coach and her daughter Nicola (18) from Shildon, a choreographer, came up with the idea of combining their two passions of skating and theatre spending months rehearsing with the skaters.  Pharaoh played by Jazzmyn Loring (7) from Oakenshaw can certainly entertain a crowd and is one of the most experienced skaters in the group as she started on wheels at just 4 years old!

Thank you to everyone who help our club develop.  Mayor Trish Pemberton attended the show and we would like to thank her for the continuous support with thanks also to Sunnydale Leisure Centre staff for their cooperation.   Bring your roller skates along to Sunnydale Leisure Centre, Sundays 2.30 – 3.30pm – £4 or Spectrum Leisure, Willington on Wednesdays 4.30 – 5.30pm – £4.   For any more information – please ring 07891 461958
