A donation of furniture from a local hotel was a surprise Christmas gift for the Retail Team at St Teresa’s Hospice in December. The donation was made following an overhaul of furniture at Walworth Castle Hotel, near Darlington. General Manager of the hotel Michael Robinson said: “It is so easy to throw away items these days but if it can be up-cycled and benefit can come of it then why not. The team at St Teresa’s make it easy by collecting and then re-distributing through their shops and all for a tremendous cause.”

The furniture, including bedside units, drawers, wardrobes, and dressing tables, will be sorted and lovingly restored by volunteers, to be sold by St Teresa’s Hospice through its popular charity shops. St Teresa’s Hospice now has 11 retail outlets across its catchment area of South Durham and North Yorkshire, including its most recent venture in Thirsk. It costs £2.2m each year to run the Hospice and to provide vital free care and support to those in need. Donations of goods to be sold via the shops are essential. 4

Hospice Chief Executive Jane Bradshaw said: “Walworth Castle Hotel has donated some fabulous pieces of furniture, and it is these high quality items that allow us to uphold our excellent reputation with the public. They will generate a substantial amount of income which will help towards the day-to-day running costs of the Hospice, meaning patients will receive care and support when and how they need it.” For more information about the Hospice shops, ways to make a donation, or the services provided by St Teresa’s Hospice, visit www. darlingtonhospice.org.uk
