Helen Follows in Sister Sara’s Footsteps

A local interior design and decorating firm has entered an exclusive presenting partnership with hit craft TV channel HOCHANDA, The Home of Crafts Hobbies and Arts, to showcase its upcycling kits created to revamp household furniture. Wear Valley Decorating Centre’s managing director Helen Johnson makes her debut appearance on HOCHANDA during two one-hour programmes on Sunday 31st July 2016 at 1pm and 3pm. In November 2015, Helen took over the company reins from her parents after they spent over 30 years at the helm. Since then, the 27-yearold, who is sister to Aycliffe Crafter’s Companion founder Sara Davies, has been focused on growing and evolving the decorating business to meet the changing needs of decorators and home lovers in the North East. Helen said: “I’m delighted to work with HOCHANDA to showcase some
of our product ranges. The up-cycling trend is very popular right now, so it’s exciting to bring some of our favourite brands to the channel. “One of the main product ranges I’ll be presenting is our chalk paints, which are great for transforming any outdated items of furniture. As the channel is focused on educating and inspiring its audience, my plan is to use the demonstrations to show viewers new and clever ways to use our products to get the best results.” HOCHANDA launched in August 2015 and has a strong following of hobbyists interested in crafts and the arts. It airs on Sky 663, Freeview channel 39, Freesat channel 817 and is broadcast via its website. Chief executive of HOCHANDA, Jamie Martin, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Wear Valley Decorating Centre to our channel. We’re expecting a large audience to watch Helen’s demonstrations as her products are very current and wellsuited to our viewers. “The HOCHANDA team are sure Helen will gain a fantastic following after her shows have aired as her store and online presence is very popular in the North East.” Wear Valley Decorating Centre trades six days a week from its store and has a large selection of paints, wallpapers and supplies available online from its e-commerce website.
