St. Mary’s Sewing Group collected the poppies from storage at the Army Medical Corps facilities, who had kindly looked after them since last year, for which we were very grateful. A thank you also to the Fire Brigade who dried them all last year when the display was taken down. It was a privilege to re-hang them again in memory of all who gave their lives in armed conflict that we might live in peace, this year particularly is significant, commemorating the start of WW2. For those of the town it is also an opportunity to remember the man behind our poppies, who was so keen for the town to have an eye catching display, Mr. Newton Aycliffe, Syd Howarth. For more information on the Services and parking arrangements for Remembrance Day see the notices printed in this week’s edition.
