The final weekend of the Russel Foster League was dramatic and successful for our Under 14 Girls and Under 17 Boys

Under 14 Girls v Washington. Nothing more than a win would secure the championship for the girls after a long season. There was nothing to split the teams in the early stages as both defences dominated, it was important to get the first goal to settle the girls and Chloe obliged with a superb finish.

Aycliffe now started to dominate possession and from a sweeping move that ended out wide on the left Lottie looked up and hit a rocket giving the keeper no chance HT 2-0. The girls still couldn’t settle as Washington pushed forward and looked dangerous from set pieces as they launched balls into the Aycliffe box, but once again it was the defence who stood firm.

Then the girls won a free kick on the edge of the Washington box which was taken by Lottie who found the unmarked Chloe to head the decisive goal. It was now just a matter of seeing out the game with a clean sheet to take a well deserved League championship FT 3-0. A huge well done the girls, Helen Clark and her coaching team of Mark Silvester and Shaun Wilson, giving the club their first girls league champions

Under 17’s v Catchgate, With the league aleady secured in mid week, there was no pressure on the team so this was to be a chance to play football and enjoy the game. They certainly did that with a first half performance which at times was simply superb.

Goals came at regular intervals and were the result of some excellent team work with all goals being set up by crosses or passes in or around the Catchgate defence HT 11-1 A number of changes were made with Goalkeeper Bradley Claughton moving to become a striker in an effort to score this season and he obliged with a neat side foot finish. FT 15-1.

Well done from the club to Dave McWaters and Mel Douglas leading these lads to a well deserved championship
