On 26th August glamorous ladies from across the region donned their most colourful hats and fascinators and headed to Sedgefield Racecourse for Roflow’s Ladies Evening.  The annual event combined all the thrills of the races, with first class entertainment, a best-dressed competition and coincided with fundraising for the Great North Air Ambulance with more than £9,000 being raised for the charity on the evening.
Tom Robson, of Roflow Environmental Engineering, which sponsored the event, said: “The evening has become a highlight of the region’s social calendar and once again the amount raised is a credit to everyone who attended.”
There were a number of highlights from the evening which included the best dressed competition that saw immaculately presented women of all ages enter the contest but it was Mrs Robinson from County Durham who caught the judges’ eye and scooped the £500 cash prize.
Helene Petch from Cockfield was one of the runner’s up in the competition. Richard Bland, of Be Premiere Hair Salons which sponsored the competition had the difficult task of judging the outfits, alongside fellow hairdresser and Big Brother winner Anthony Hutton, from Consett.
Mr Bland said: “It was a very tough choice as they all looked very glamorous but we felt that Mrs Robinson stood out from the crowds. We loved how her whole outfit was colour coordinated.”
Jill Williamson, Executive Director of Sedgefield Racecourse said: “A huge thank you must go out to all the lovely ladies in attendance on Tuesday parading their beautiful summer outfits in their hundreds.
The evening was a huge success and it felt fantastic to get back into racing after our summer break in June and July.”
