Martin Ashcroft has been elected to the Town Council in the By Election for West Ward held last Thursday.
Election results were:
Martin Ashcroft Labour
333 votes (59%).
Gary Soakell Independent
137 votes (24%)
Paul Symons UKIP
94  votes (17%)
Total votes cast 567
Turnout 13.4%
Labour fielded one of their best candidates in  Martin Ashcroft, as moderate, progressive young and enthusiastic. In a lower turnout Labour increased its share of the vote.
Martin released the following statement “I would like to thank all the people of West Ward for giving me this opportunity to serve them which I will do to the best of my ability. I will regularly attend meetings and speak up for the West Ward and the Town.
