Dear Syd,

One day during the Xmas holidays I found myself at a check point in Tesco with a basketful of groceries and no money to pay for them as I had left my wallet at home.

When the next customers in the in queue (a man and his wife who were complete strangers to me) realised my predicament they immediately insisted on paying the bill.

Over the years I have been in similar situations (car breakdowns, minor mishaps, etc.,etc.). I have been both a “giver” and a “receiver”. As a” giver” I have experienced great satisfaction in being able to help. As a “receiver” I have had mixed emotions. Certainly, I have always felt grateful but I have also felt disappointment and frustration in not being allowed to repay my benefactors.

That is why, via your newspaper, I ask these good people to contact me on william507@btinternet.com and give me the pleasure of paying them back for their kindness.

William Cooksey
