Get your kids drawing this summer holiday and you could be on your way to Europe!
The Woodland Trust has put out a call to all parents, grandparents and children this summer, gather together all the budding young artists in your families – pick up a paintbrush, sharpen those crayons and enter the Trust’s exciting Doodle Bugs Drawing Competition.
The Trust wants to see nature-inspired drawings, be it a badger busy in a wood, a frog in the back garden, a beautiful butterfly, a special tree or simply something nature related plucked from the imagination.
The overall winner will win a seven day Eurocamp holiday for the whole family with art and craft goody bags for three runners-up. The Woodland Trust believes everyone should have free access to woodland – no matter where they live and what their background. The Trust aims for everyone to have access to woodland within 500 metres of their home. But it goes further than that. The Trust wants to help encourage and enable children to love, value and engage with nature.
The Trust is launching its new Nature Detectives website and family membership which has a raft of new and exciting activities to appeal to children and parents from all backgrounds, from den building and woodland art, to getting muddy and wildlife spotting. There is a wealth of information to access online with an emphasis on fun and learning in the great outdoors.
Beccy Speight, Chief Executive at the Woodland Trust, said: “Woods offer one of the world’s most wonderful playgrounds. They are full of opportunities for children to explore, roam and grow. And being outdoors together allows families to create precious memories.
“We want children, no matter where they are, to start enjoying the benefits of woodland more regularly and often this is about making their visits fun. The Woodland Trust has more than 1,000 woods UK-wide that are all free to access and with our all-new Nature Detectives resources, parents can download all the inspiration they need to make a really memorable day out.”
She added: “To kick off these new activities we are inviting children to get out into nature, have a doodle and send us their best drawings and enter our Doodle Bugs drawing competition. The best drawing will win a holiday!”
