Woodham Burn Primary School is fully committed to meeting the Government’s ambitious plans for children to be more active. This begins right from the start.
In addition to PE lessons, on a daily basis the children in reception class participate in ten minutes of exercise called Jump Start Jonny. Jump Start Jonny is a fantastic role model for children with his insanely energetic fitness, and is a superstar on a global mission to get children fit.
There’s lots of evidence which shows exercise is an important key to reducing our risk of many major illnesses. Research shows that regular physical activity can boost self-esteem, mood and sleep quality, making us less prone to stress or depression and dementia. Getting the children involved in a regular physical exercise regime from an early age as possible will help reduce the chance of major illness in their adult lives.
Miss Waller and Miss Wood, Reception teachers said “We have found that ten minutes of exercise every morning helps the children improve not only their level of fitness but their co-ordination, concentration ad gross motor skills. This, in turn has a positive impact upon their performance in the classroom and they look forward to it every day. All adults in Reception team also join in so that the children have good role models when it comes to being fit and healthy”
Mrs Edwards, Head Teacher said “Getting plenty of exercise is really important for children, especially when they are still developing their bodies and minds.”
