There’s a real treat guaranteed for Darlington jazz fans when Emily Bacon brings her Good Time Gang back to the town.

Darlington New Orleans Jazz Club’s lunchtime gig on Saturday 4 August features the ever-popular Miss Emily Bacon and her Good Time Gang – a seven piece band guaranteed to delight with their deep south sounds of traditional New Orleans Jazz.

And the fun just goes on and on – a double bill in September, with the Club hosting two gigs featuring international piano star Jeff Barnhart. First up, Saturday 8 September sees Jeff join forces with banjo and guitar virtuoso Spats Langham, and together they’ll amuse, captivate and entertain playing their arrangements of music from the Great American Song Book, and earlier.

The following Saturday 15 September, Jeff presents a new departure for the Club – a showing of his Great Silent Movie show, a treasure trove of stories and films from early days of cinematic comedy. Just like in those far-off days, Jeff’s live piano accompaniment weaves musical magic from scene to scene whilst the likes of Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin and Fatty Arbuckle entertain the audience with romps through car chases, stunts, suspense and romance.

Darlington New Orleans Jazz Club meets at St Augustine’s Parish Hall, Larchfield Street, Darlington 12.30pm . Entry is just £10 on the door, and children 15 and under go free. St Augustine’s Parish Centre is a short walk from the bus stops on Tubwell Row and Darlington railway station.
