It is with regret I inform you and residents of Newton Aycliffe that one of your contributors – J M Gowland of Heighington has passed away.
He bore his illness with immense courage and great dignity.
Our family were early residents of the town and Malcolm went to school in the ‘Flats’ prior to the opening of Sugar Hill School. He attended Milton and Marlowe Hall School’s  followed by evening classes in Business Studies at Darlington Technical College.
Malcolm – my brother was  Assistant Manager of Fine Fare and ultimately Manager in the town centre in the 1960’s.
His career went from strength – he held senior management positions in the UK and Overseas. Malcolm leaves behind three children – Craig, Andrew and Jenny, four grandchildren along with  his much loved partner Lynn.
Malcolm touched many people’s hearts in Newton Aycliffe.
I know many of his friends do not buy the Northern Echo, but thought the people of Newton Aycliffe should know of his demise.
Funeral Monday 23 March 11:45am at Wear Valley Crematorium.
