A Durham theatre is celebrating, having charmed thousands of audience members during its most successful festive season ever.
Gala Theatre’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs proved to be its most popular pantomime since the venue opened in 2002. Over 33,000 theatre-goers enjoyed more than 70 performances in its six week run.
The theatre’s Christmas show for the under 5s, Once Upon A Christmas, also proved to be a hit with more than 6,000 people turning out for its 75 performances.
Robin Byers, manager of Durham’s Gala Theatre said: “We’re delighted with the sales of both this year’s Christmas shows. We’re proud that these are shows created in the heart of Durham for our audiences. All of our staff work so hard to put the shows together, it is such a team effort, and it’s really rewarding to know that families are enjoying them. And we are really pleased to see many people returning year after year as part of their festive traditions.
“The curtain may have fallen on one Christmas season of fun and laughter, but we’ve already begun planning for this year’s festive show. Gala favourites Neil Armstrong and Paul Hartley will return to write, direct and star in the much-loved, Aladdin, and we will make sure the show is filled with more slapstick, mischief and laughter.”
More than 6,000 people have already booked for this year’s pantomime and audiences are encouraged to book now to snap up a bargain with an early bird ticket offer.
The genie-us Aladdin will run from Thursday 21 November to Saturday 4 January and by booking before Thursday 31 January 2019 theatre-goers can save up to £5 on tickets for select performances between Saturday 23 November and Wednesday 18 December.
As well as having BSL performances on Sunday 8 December and Thursday 2 January at 1pm, and a relaxed performance on Thursday 2 January at 6pm, a captioned performance will be introduced for the first time on Thursday 2 January at 1pm.
