This week, representatives from the British Council praised the work undertaken in Stephenson Way Academy as they awarded them the International School Award.

While working towards this accolade, pupils have been given many opportunities within their enriched curriculum to enhance their awareness of the world in which they live.

Students have discovered more about different countries across the globe and celebrated the differences in culture and customs that make each place special.

Younger children were particularly engaged in their work on Chinese New Year and enjoyed creating a dragon dance as well as sampling some new cuisines. Older pupils investigating India found a range of invasion games that were similar to some that we play and had great fun playing ‘Kabaddi’ a traditional Indian ball game in PE sessions.

In addition to this, more than twenty children opt to attend an extra-curricular languages club each week and, since September, have already become proficient at holding an introductory conversation in both French and German.

As part of our exploration, we have also begun to establish links with schools in other parts of the world and we’re excited to work more collaboratively with teachers and pupils in other countries over the coming months.
