Dear Syd
It would seem that Victor Meldrew is alive and well and living in Newton Aycliffe hiding behind the ubiquitous “name and address supplied.”  I refer to the letter headed ‘No Room for Market in Thames Centre’.
It is to the owners of The Thames centre and the stall holder’s credit that they support the public and have a commitment to a market on the town centre despite having to squeeze into a relatively small space.  He/she says “Imagine stalls, mobility scooters, wheelchairs and all the people”.
Dear me he/she  missed out the inconsiderate mums with pushchairs!  Supporters of the market do not have to imagine, they are shopping and making the best of a difficult and hopefully short term job without complaint as it is a service they want on the town centre;  it is their way  to try to show the owners, the monied people in London, that they have made a mistake.
Is this person always in such a rush, so impolite, and without compassion that they feel they can not stand aside for a minute or two for someone less able than themselves?  Are they aware that a similar situation can and does sometimes arise in Tesco, or are they one of the people who barge through the isles regardless, tutting at other shoppers and the free standing baskets that get in their way piled high with goods they do not want?
I was not surprised that this person was the only one complaining to Newton News as most considerate people take into account that the Aycliffe stalls are the only source of income for some stallholders.
My message to name and address supplied is – if you don’t like it avoid the Thames Centre, don’t denigrate people who are trying to make a difference.
