Sadly in October 2015 my Community Kitty, a registered charity, will have to cease due to Durham County Council’s decison to sell the land on which the Cubby stands and from where I sell goods to help town organisations.
The only saviour would be if any business could accommodate the charity in a town centre location for a moderate weekly rent, but I fear that might not be possible owing to rules concerning sub-letting, insurance etc.
That being the case it is only nine months before the charity will close down after eight years in which time it has raised over £120,000 from generous Newtonians who have donated goods for me to sell.
In 2014 the total donations to local organisations and charities amounted to £21,850.
So with such a short time to go let’s make more money for deserving causes and go out with a smile.
