Local fundraiser, Honest John has provided Newton Aycliffe Spartans Baseball Club with a huge boost on the eve of the 2014 season with a donation of £400.
Pictured accepting the cheque from John is Spartans General Manager and Head Coach, Mike Holton who commented “We cannot thank John enough for this generous donation and we continue to admire and appreciate that work he undertakes to help support local community groups like The Spartans. The money will help the development of both the senior and junior sections of the club.”
Boosted by the donation the Spartans start their British Baseball Federation AA Northern Division 2014 this coming Sunday with two home games against Harrogate Cubs and Mike Holton is optimistic about the season ahead.
‘We are excited for the new season thanks to a great off season in which those players returning from 2013 and those new players who have joined in the off season have all gelled well’ ‘We are expecting the division will be tough but we also feel that collectively we can make a push to be one of the impact teams’
Over the next five months, The Spartans will face teams from Sheffield, Manchester, Bolton, Oldham, Liverpool and this weekend’s opponents, Harrogate.
All home matches are played at Sunnydale Leisure Centre in Shildon and this Sunday’s first pitch will be at 12pm, with the second game starting at 2.30pm and a full fixture list and more information on the Spartans can be found at www.newtonaycliffespartans.co.uk
