Celebrating Communities invite you to the 2019 Holocaust Memorial Ceremony which will be held on Monday 28th January starting at 7pm in the beautiful Victorian Assembly Hall in Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, Vane Road, Darlington.
The Holocaust Ceremony will be led by Shildon Methodist Minister Rev Andrew Bryer and will feature six students from Queen Elizabeth College, Lucy Jameson, Kyon Sharma, Ami Lavan, and Eleanor Wright who will talk about their recent visit to Auschwitz Concentration camp and later reflect on their hopes for the future, Zainab Miah will read a moving and emotive poem and we are delighted that Joe Kearney, another young student from the college, will be providing appropriate music for the occasion.
And whilst the murder of 6 million innocent men, women and children put fear into the civilian population across Europe there were people who were prepared to sacrifice their own life to save others. We will remember these people and remind us all of the courage of three women who were prepared to lose their own lives to save the lives of children.
During the Service candles will be lit to commemorate other genocides and atrocities that have occurred since the end of the Second World War as these too should be remembered and not consigned to a history book.
Admission is free and Refreshments will be available at the end of the ceremony.
