This week’s hog blog begins with my apology for the mistake I made in last weeks edition. I would like to correct this by advising readers of the following, there are many foods our prickly pals shouldn’t eat, mealworms, these cause metabolic bone disease for which there is no cure, milk and bread upset their tummies, and peanuts can get wedged either on the roof of their mouths or stuck in their throat. If anybody feels that they want to help our hedgehogs their needs are very small, clean water and dry kitten biscuits, they like to make sure that they have the fat stores ready for hibernation and even when hibernating they can still wake up periodically and feed if they need to, our outside feeding station always has food, water and bedding just in case they need a warm place for the night. I hope that clarifies matters.
Meanwhile back in the warm rescue we have seven autumn juveniles, Marty our littlest hog is still unwell but making progress, this little blokey is quite a fighter, three intestinal parasites have been identified two of which are killers, we are very proud of him, he has had me very worried this last week.
We have a certain amount of fundraising to do especially at this time of year so on Saturday we will be doing the Methodist Church Christmas Fair, we will have information leaflets and some Christmas things for sale. Your support is very much appreciated.
