Dear Sir,

This is my first publication of Hoggie Blog and as the weather is getting colder and a lot damper I would like to ask all readers to spare a thought for our wildlife.

I would firstly like to thank the following finders of the three baby hedgehogs I have in my rescue because it would have meant certain death had they not brought them to me. Nicola Jacques for finding Cindi who is gaining weight and doing well, Martin Shires for rescuing Marti, out alone and being too small to survive like Cindi and finally Lucy who was found on Monday by Jacki Craft, poor Lucy was curled up, cold, wet and frightened, out in the daytime, weighs 224 grams and very sore with mange and some abscesses. She is warm and receiving the medical and critical care she needs and deserves.

These little ones will have to remain indoors till next year now, but when they do they will be 100% fit and healthy and go on to have maybe two or three litters of their own, maybe four babies each time which is a fantastic boost to a struggling mammal population.

Can I finally add, these hedgehogs are every gardeners best friend, please don’t try to kill slugs with metaldehyde slug pellets, you will only kill a hedgehog, save yourselves money by giving the hedgehog the slugs to eat when they wake up at night, also check before you strim or use any gardening machinery, hedgehogs won’t run, they freeze with fear and they never cry out.

Should you need assistance please follow our British Hedgehog Preservation Society website or your local vets are very wildlife friendly, members of the public can take them without any cost to themselves.
