The appeal to bring new state of the art MRI scanners to Darlington Memorial and Bishop Auckland Hospitals has received a boost from Hewitts Solicitors who have adopted the appeal as their charity for 2018.

Partner, Ben Green, said, “Many of us take part in sporting and other activities and it’s great to think that whilst we’re enjoying ourselves, we’re also raising money for this fantastic cause. One of the reasons we chose the MRI Scanner appeal is that there’s potential for local people from all walks of life and backgrounds to benefit from this equipment. We’re very lucky to have it on our doorstep when people in other parts of the country aren’t so fortunate.

“We’ve a number of fundraising activities planned during the year, the first of which comes up at the end of March when 26 of us are taking part in the Gung-ho Challenge at Wynyard Hall – wish us luck! We’ve a justgiving page and would welcome sponsors.”

Charity manager at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, Pat Chambers, said, “We’re so grateful to Hewitts for their generosity. Individuals, organisations and businesses are all stepping up and supporting us. Modern MRI scanners can play an important part in helping consultants diagnose and determine treatment plans for what can be life threatening or life limiting conditions, including many types of cancer and heart disease.

“Thanks to the generosity of manufacturer, Philips, patients at Bishop Auckland Hospital are already benefiting from the new scanner, whilst fundraising continues during 2018. The scanner at Darlington Memorial Hospital will be installed later in the spring, once building work has been completed.
