A local church is one of 1,138 across the UK offering free courses to help make money management a successful resolution for 2014.
Life Church in Newton Aycliffe will be running the CAP Money Course following the successful training from the debt counselling charity Christians Against Poverty.
CAP Money coach, and member of the congregation, Linzi Nicolls, said: “We are really pleased to be able to put on this popular course, which 10,000 people attended in the UK just last year.
“January is a great time to take a fresh look at your financial situation and make a plan for the year ahead. Lots of people are keen to manage their money, but often don’t have the basic skills, so this course is a really effective place to start.”
It is designed for anyone whether unemployed, receiving benefits, working, self-employed, retired, newly married or recently divorced.
“Even if you went a bit overboard at Christmas, it’s not too late to do something now about your financial situation.
With the help of the CAP Money Course, we have seen people back in the black and start saving – sometimes for the first time in their lives,” said Linzi.
One course attendee said: “Before the CAP Money Course, we never knew where we were and felt overwhelmed about how to budget. Now our finances are clear and we’re confident managing them.”
The Helping Hands team are also supporting this course.  Alwyn White says ‘With households feeling the squeeze on their disposable income, we’ve all got to get a bit more knowledgeable about our money to get through these tough times. If you know how to save and budget effectively, it can have a hugely positive impact on the whole family.”  We at Life Church and the Helping Hands team want to invest in peoples lives by supporting them by putting on this course’
The first course takes place soon in Newton Aycliffe, starting 12-2pm on 13th January then 20th & concluding on 27th January.
