Game 2 of the Richmond double header, for Heighington U15’s was played out at Richmond High School this afternoon. Initial signs were promising as the home side started with only 10 men, however they made it difficult by working harder in the early stages and although a bit fortunate to score first, you couldn’t fault them for their efforts. Heighington took a long time to really settle, and certainly were not playing as well as they had been in game 1 on Thursday night. Chances were being created and not finished until a cross from Sam Thompson, was missed by Liam Wright, but Max Errington Coates was on hand to slot home the equaliser.
Richmond’s main threat was from the long high goal kicks and there were a few nervous moments, and it needed a moment of real quality in what was a scrappy match, from Roman Alves, when he neatly side stepped and found the top right hand corner just before half time to make it 2-1.
Richmond now had 11 players and the second half was a ding dong battle, littered with fouls, and bad refereeing decisions which meant neither team really got to grips with playing decent football, and so it was that the scoring remained the same, and Heighington completed a memorable double over Richmond to keep them in the hunt for 2nd place…Well done lads, and MOM was awarded to Todd Steed who kept the home side at bay throughout.
