The Spar in Heighington, owned and run by Peter Gosnay is collecting food for the charity, ‘Footprints In The Community’.
The charity was set up in January 2013 as part of the Trussell Trust. The foodbank is one of several projects which ‘Footprints in The Community’ run. They work with over 100 volunteers every week and since the charity started, it has fed 20,830 clients of which 6853 are children.
The demand continues to increase and they have seen a significant rise in larger families in need of help. No-one likes to think of a need on our own doorsteps, but sadly this is the case.
To help, please pop into your local Spar store in Heighington and donate food from the list that is provided in store. The majority being tinned items, but also including, pasta, biscuits, cereals, tea and coffee.
Manageress Jane said, “When we heard we could do something to help through Helen Gosnay at the insolvency service as part of their volunteering initiative, we were delighted to oblige. It makes sense really, having a foodbank in the store.
This way people can purchase from the store and donate whilst they do their own shopping. We are really positive that the local community and surrounding areas will really back this charity and donate items.
Our aim is to fill as many boxes as possible to help this wonderful charity.”

Jane also picked up from a previous article in the ‘Newton News’ where she was saddened to read that a lady from Heighington was stuck and unable to get out shopping due to the unpredictable bus service. Jane stated, “We are a friendly local store, and I would like to reach out to the lady and others in the same situation and say we are happy to help her in regards to this issue. If she could contact the shop direct and ask for myself (Jane) then I would very much like to speak with her.”  Spar Heighington Tel: 01325 313144
