Recently an event was organised by the scouts and members of the community of Heighington as part of the “Our Community Matters” project which is funded by the National Lottery Reaching Communities. The project is led by Youth Focus: North East in partnership with Tees Valley Rural Action (TVRA).

The aim of the Project was to bridge the gap between young and old in communities. The project involved delivering a Wellbeing Challenge to bring at least 100 people together to help improve community cohesion. Heighington scouts took up the challenge and it went off magnificently.

They presented their work on the history of Heighington to an incredible high standard and it was good to hear the praise heaped on the scouts by many visitors, who were impressed by the initiative they displayed. Rarely were they told to do something – they just did it. The scouts are a credit to the parish and we were proud to be involved in this successful event. This wonderful occasion was augmented by a fascinating talk on Heighington by Chris Lloyd who always finds something which together with his delivery is great to listen to.

The Scout event raised a staggering £547 which, with £300 from Heighington Homemakers raised through their hard work in organising a very successful Fashion Show, plus a £75 donation from one of our generous ladies, we are well under way to buy a Defibrillator for Heighington. Should anyone else wish to make a private donation to this worthy cause please contact Ruth or I.

So a BIG thanks to our Scouts, Chris Lloyd, Tees Valley Action Group and to everyone who came along to support the event.
