Her Majesty, the Queen, could not come in person to see the hard work that our community put in to adorning the houses and gardens with flags and bunting galore to transform our street into a visage of colourful splendour.
Zeke and Linzi let their garden grow to meadow in keeping with Her Majesty’s desire to protect the life of the planet.
The party begins: The opening ceremony was conducted by Dene Stockdale, who asked the party goers, who were able, to be up-standing and assist him with the loyal toast. This was followed by the National Anthem.
Welcome: Liz Wilson welcomed neighbours, friends, Cllrs David Sutton Lloyd, Tony Stubbs and Mr Paul Howell MP and reminded party goers to be aware of the Health and Safety notices that had previously been communicated to them.
Acknowledgements: We are most grateful to Durham County Council for their permission to close part of the street which enabled us to enjoy the occasion in complete safety and also for the generous grant that was used towards some of the day’s expenses, Mark Aldworth ‘Fat Bob’s Musical Menagerie’ for providing the entertainment and also helping with the raffle in his break, the Raffle and Bingo organiser Jill Howe, Lee Fiskel for overseeing the prize stall, everybody who generously donated raffle prizes, Malcolm Frank for hosting the Jubilee Quiz, the ‘work detail’ for decorating the street and ensuring the council safety rules were followed.
Our thanks go to everybody who made this such a convivial and memorable event. The proceeds of £166 from the raffle will be gifted between Woodham Community Centre and St. Elizabeth’s Church.
