Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP) is encouraging people to get involved in its big plans to develop a socially inclusive garden in the grounds of the Pioneering Care Centre.
Last year the garden was transformed into a hive of growing activity with thanks to participants attending a ‘Plot to Plate’ project. The idea became a reality with thanks to funding from Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership (GAMP’s) ‘Your Money, Your Area, Your Views’ Community Grants Fund.
PCP wants to build on this success and create an area that can be used for social and therapeutic horticulture activities. The vision is to use the entire garden area for a variety of learning and leisure projects to bring the local community together.
To get these ideas started there are a number of ways you can get involved:
Family half term activity: Green Finger Fun Workshop – Thursday 19 February 1 – 3pm. Indoor fun activities making story stones and wind chimes whilst finding out more about the PCP’s secret garden plans.
Dig-in: 10 week course for adults starting Monday 2 March 10am – 12noon. Learn about and take part in wildlife and organic gardening and growing your own vegetables whilst meeting new people.
Big Dig Community Event: Saturday 21 March 10am – 1pm. If you’re enthusiastic about gardening, or would just like to join in and make a difference in your local community, get involved in the nation’s biggest community gardening volunteering event, The Big Dig.
Dig Art: 10 week course for families starting at Easter. Garden fun for all the family making artwork from materials gathered from the garden. Make outdoor sculptures using reflective, tactile, musical and recycled objects.
The health benefits of gardening are well recognised. Gardening can have a positive impact on physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
