Greenfield Community College were delighted to receive GOLD kite mark for their outstanding achievements in School Sport and leadership for the 2nd consecutive year. This followed the news that they had finished top of Sedgefield Schools medal table for the 5th Consecutive year and been nominated for the 2013 Sedgefield & County Durham Sport awards for a second year.   Pupils of all abilities have so many opportunities at the school.
Amazingly, twelve teams from ten different sports have attended County finals this year, including Boccia, Table Tennis, Badminton, Cricket, Mountain biking, Rugby, Tennis (& inclusion tennis), Rowing & Basketball (& wheelchair basketball).
Clubs and academies, in addition to above, thriving at the school include MGFA, Greenfield Netball, Gymnastics, Dance, Martial Arts and Cheerleading, all of which have had so many success stories throughout the year.
Last time Greenfield were nominated for Sedgefield’s ‘Contribution to Secondary Sport and Physical Activity’ award, they won the Sedgefield Award, and finished runners up to Durham Johnston at the County Awards.  It would be great, if this year they could go one step further.  Greenfield have a number of other nominee’s attending the Sedgefield Awards this week.  Congratulations to Rubi Alderson for her Young leaders nomination, Courtnie Mills for her young performer nomination, and Greenfield’s Netball Club for their well-deserved nomination of Club of the year.  Greenfield’s netball club is one of 10 Community clubs established at Greenfield, which provide quality exit routes and academies to Greenfield students and their Community.  For more information contact Michael Rippon (Facility manager) on 07879117224.
Mr Priestley, headteacher, commented the outstanding achievements of our students in sport are all part of our commitment to meet the needs of all of our students  and they complement our excellent results at GCSE this year.
Congratulations must also go to Byerely Park for their very well deserved GOLD kite mark this year.  Good luck to all nominations, including Woodham Academy who have also been nominated for an award.
