Last week students from Greenfield College’s STEAM club (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) visited this year’s Big Bang Young Scientists and Engineers Fair at the NEC in Birmingham.
They wonderful time trying out a range of fascinating and impressive science and engineering activities. This included the chance to programme with Raspberry Pi computers, to challenge Usain Bolt’s world record in an “accelerator” tunnel, testing their engineering skills with their own KNEX constructions in a wind tunnel and trying out a flight simulator!
Whilst taking advantage of the opportunity to see what other STEM clubs from across the country have been working on, including those in the finals of a Robot construction project, Greenfield had their own success with student Joel winning a time trial in a virtual F1 car – Joel was extremely pleased with his achievement and had been practising hard in anticipation of the event!
The STEAM club here at Greenfield, is supported by multiple departments with a team of staff supporting these enthusiastic students to achieve their aspirations in these areas. The day was a great experience for those students involved, leaving them all inspired to continue their own STEAM club projects!
