Following their success at the County Sports awards recently, Greenfield Community College were awarded a Get Set Olympic legacy grant to further develop their PE and sporting opportunities.
The school are organising a range of festivals, Out of School Hours sporting clubs and Community opportunities, to help build a lasting Olympic legacy at the school.
Taking inspiration from the Olympic Values of excellence, friendship and respect, and the Paralympic Values of determination, inspiration, courage and equality.   Greenfield aim to make a real difference to their students and the local Community.
Greenfield students will have a range of new free out of school hours opportunities with local clubs (in addition to their highly recognised programme), including Gymnastics with Athena Gymnastics Club, Dance with Aycliffe dance academy, Table Tennis with Bishop Table Tennis Club, Cheerleading, Trampolining and much more.
Also many Community Sporting Opportunities at the school will be offered Free to children in the local community on Free school meals / or in need of financial support.
In partnership with the Department for Education, Get Set, the official British Olympic and British Paralympic education programme in the UK, (www.getset.co.uk) invited schools to apply for grants of up to £5,000 to support them in delivering activities which maximise the legacy of the Games and ensure that schools continue to drive teaching and learning and motivate young people.
The Greenfield initiative is one of approximately 100 projects nationally to be supported by this grant.  Greenfields successful bid will further add to the Schools ambition to raise aspirations and transform lives through sport and physical activity.

Tim Reddish, Chair of the British Paralympic Association, added: ‘This initiative will empower schools and communities around the country to deliver the Games’ Legacy objectives.  The network of schools involved will make a real impact and help to build a lasting legacy.’
Get Set wanted to support successful projects to help them develop further.
