During a transition Summer School at Greenfield Community College, students moving into Year 7 at Greenfield are supporting the local Aycliffe police team to improve awareness of speed issues in the area.
Concerns were raised by residents in meetings with the police, who then approached Greenfield Arts to work together on creative ways to respond to the concerns. Thanks to funding from GAMP AAP and sponsorship from the Newton News young people have been working with artist Vicky Holbrough to make human like figures that will be displayed near the roadside around Aycliffe soon. Look out for one modelled on PCSO Hutchinson!
The group of students from Greenfield spent the day with Vicky this week as part of their Summer School activities, preparing them to start in Year 7 in September. It has been great for them to be a part of this community project, working in partnership with the local police and understanding the important role that Greenfield plays in the community.
After the success of this way of working we are now working on more ways Greenfield Arts can collaborate with the local police – look out for more activity in October Half Term!
