On Saturday 16th February a party of thirteen students and staff made their way to Sansicario in Italy for a full week of skiing in the famous Italian ‘Milky Way.’

This was the first of two residentials organised by Greenfield College this year. Sansicario is combined with other resorts Montgenevre, Sestriere, Sauze d’Oulx and Claviere, providing the students with more than 350 kilometres of skiing.

The students enjoyed hours upon hours of skiing with their fantastic Italian ski instructors, who were so impressed with the group’s skiing ability that they extended their allocated lesson time to allow them to develop even further.

All students made great progress over the week, with the more experienced skiers achieving ‘Advanced Silver’ level. The group used the Olympic Run used as part of the Winter Olympics in 2006, allowing the students to follow in the footsteps of world class skiers from the past.

The group bonded over the week together and made new friends from other schools. The staff were impressed with their level of maturity and support for each other throughout the trip.

The fun filled Après Ski sessions included a disco, team challenges, quizzes, and a quick visit across the border to France to sample one of the best pizza and crepe restaurants the group had ever been to.  The group never stopped smiling and met every challenge with positivity and determination.

The students made the staff feel very proud with their attitude and behaviour representing Greenfield and the community during the trip; Mr Butterworth and Miss Barnes were really pleased to have accompanied such a great group. One of the ski instructors commented:

‘At the beginning of the week I met for the first time another group of students but by the end I have made some unbelievable friends.  They were kind, caring and a joy to be around’.

Well done to those students!
