Greenfield has always prided itself in providing excellence in Performing and Creative Arts opportunities and recently we have more to celebrate! In September we were thrilled to have Daniel Wilkinson selected to represent the school at the Youth Sport Trust School Games- this was following the ‘YST Factor’ auditions in which Daniel beat off National competition to be selected to perform at the Opening ceremony. Daniel, who trains with Claire Walton has also recently been talent spotted to train at Pineapple studios with a top London choreographer. He has also successfully auditioned for Dance City’s Advanced Training Programme. Daniel, who is studying GCSE dance at Greenfield is absolutely thrilled about his recent success and we are very proud of him. Another student Emily Halford, spent most of her Summer training in Hollywood with Top US choreographers where she was also selected for the London Spring tour in 2017. Emily who also trains with Clare Walton spent months fundraising to pay for the trip which the school was able to help out a little with. Whilst Emily was on the plane flying out to America little did she know that she had been selected to go through to the Semi-finals of the UK Dance Elite Championship 2016 and  she has also just landed a part in Alladin at the Majestic Theatre in Darlington. Emily has always been a part of our performance groups at Greenfield, performing in our productions, arts platforms and at regional events and she does so with immense grace and integrity. As she goes into Year 11 studying GCSE dance as one of her subjects we have fingers crossed for an A* result. The last three years we have been immensely proud of our GCSE dance results with upwards of 88% gaining A*-C grades and this year and over 77% made 4 levels of progress or more. Many of the class of 2016 were involved in countless school, community and International projects throughout their time at Greenfield and we are extremely proud and privileged to have taught and worked with them. Not complacent however we currently have three projects on the go and one in the pipeline. November will see 2 original choreographies be presented; one based on Greenfield Arts current Gallery Exhibition ‘The Shapes of Cornish’ the second a commission to coincide with the school’s adoption of Shildon railway station and the third with our partner school in Amiens which will see dance worked developed once again with a European dimension. Watch this space also as the school plans its showcase production of ‘We Will Rock You’ coming to the community in the Spring. Mrs Dixon, subject leader for performing arts and dance specialist says that she is really proud of all the students who are involved in Performing Arts. ‘We are very fortunate to have such strong dance provision in our community and at the school which enables young people to compete and benefit from training at a National and International level’
